In February of this year, Āio Media embarked on a significant journey to Te Urewera, capturing the transformative renovations under the PGF Marae Renovations projects. This impactful endeavor has been a privilege and a cherished experience for our team.

The Provincial Growth Fund (PGF) allocated nearly $7 million to enhance, renovate, and restore marae across Ruatāhuna, Ruatoki, and Waimana. Entrusted with showcasing the impact and outcomes of this initiative, Āio Media was honored to take on this important task. Over six days, we visited 14 marae, engaging with mana whenua to document their unique perspectives on the PGF’s transformative journey and its significance to their communities.

Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 6th, as we premiere the feature-length documentary created by Āio Media. The exclusive screening will be held at Reading Cinema Rotorua, celebrating the culmination of our collective efforts. You can also watch the documentary on YouTube by following this link.

Āio Media extends heartfelt thanks to Asher Nīkora and Celia Soloman Te Kani for their unwavering support and dedication throughout this project. Our sincere appreciation goes to our core team members: Max Yeager (Camera Operator and Editor), Tamati Waaka (Kaiuiui/Interviewer), Sam Eriwata (Sound Engineer), Kimoro Taiepa (Subtitles and Translations), Nathan Sharma (VFX), and Kākānui Marae for providing accommodations during our fieldwork.
